Hedge Trimming Price Calculator

Measure each hedge, mark the tall ones, and get a per-foot quote with haul-away, checked against what the market charges in 2026.

What Is a Hedge Trimming Price Calculator?

Hedge work is easier to price by length than by the hour: the client can see the hedge, you can measure it, and two crews quoting the same row land near each other. The calculator multiplies each hedge's length by a per-foot rate set by its height, totals the rows and adds haul-away: Σ(length × rate per foot) + haul-away. For everything else on the property, the landscaping cost calculator covers the bigger jobs.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. 1Add one row per hedge and enter its length in feet. Pace it off or use a wheel; the price follows the length.
  2. 2Mark any hedge over 6 ft tall. Those are priced at the higher per-foot rate.
  3. 3Choose where in the market range you price: low end for easy maintenance trims, high end for shaping or overgrown hedges.
  4. 4Add a haul-away charge if you take the clippings, and set your job minimum.
  5. 5Print or copy the quote. The market low and high stay visible so you can explain the price.

How Much Does Hedge Trimming Cost?

LawnStarter's hedge trimming cost guide (updated October 2026) puts the national average at $429, with most homeowners paying $200–$600. The guide prices by length: $2.50–$4 per foot for hedges up to 6 ft tall and $4–$6 per foot above that. Those are the rates this calculator uses.

Hedge lengthUp to 6 ft tallOver 6 ft
15 ft$38–$60$60–$90
30 ft$75–$120$120–$180
50 ft$125–$200$200–$300
100 ft$250–$400$400–$600
150 ft$375–$600$600–$900

The same guide quotes a standard landscaping rate of about $69 an hour. If your per-foot quote works out far below what the job takes at your own hourly rate, the per-foot number is wrong for that property, not your rate.

What Moves the Price Up

Overgrown or neglected

A first cut back to shape takes far longer than a maintenance trim. Quote it at the high end or as a separate restoration job.

Height and ladders

Most crews reach about 6 ft from the ground. Above that you are on ladders or a pole trimmer, which is why tall hedges price higher per foot.

Access and obstacles

Slopes, fences, beds in front of the hedge and nearby power lines all slow the cut and the cleanup.

Shaping

Formal boxwood, topiary and crisp flat tops take more time than an informal trim of a privacy screen.

Debris

Some crews include hauling; others charge dump fees. Say which in the quote so the client compares like with like.

A regular maintenance trim goes faster per foot than cutting back an overgrown hedge, and it is easy to sell as a recurring add-on on your price sheet. Hedge shears and blades dull like mower blades do; the blade sharpening guide covers the same file-and-angle basics.

Example: Two Hedges, Mid-Range

A 40 ft boxwood row at $3.25/ft is $130. A 60 ft privacy hedge over 6 ft at $5/ft is $300. Add $40 haul-away and the quote is $470, between the $340 market low and $520 market high for those two hedges.
